The Elders Have a New Home! Can you help?

Our dear Elders continue to need your help!! Their need is great and so is their gratitude to every person who comes alongside them.  

A few weeks ago we shared that with very little warning, we unexpectedly had to relocate our Elders’ Home for those living with leprosy as the prevous property owner informed us that he was increasing their rent by 50% and he would not let us install a newly donated water tanker and shower which are critical for hygiene!!   Finding a new place in such a short time wasn’t easy and rental inflation is a challenge for all who live in Korah. But God is good! He has provided a much nicer and larger compound with more bedrooms, kitchen, water, and a living room for the same increased price of the current compound.

UPDATE:

Since this initial posting, the elders have moved into their new home and everyone received a much needed new bed!  Thank you to all who helped to make this happen! While in Ethiopia, our recent HFK team was able to spend time with the elders.  These gentlemen were so thankful and excited to be in their new home with so much additional space and privacy.  For the first time, Alayehu, Getachew, Kuman and Aregase have their own rooms! Everyone is thrilled! To celebrate, we all shared a wonderful coffee ceremony and Ethiopian meal together.  We have posted photos below.

This extra rent has added to the overall cost of what it takes to properly care for these men and we are still in need of monthly sponsors or one-time gifts to the Elders’ Home.  Around $20,000 remains to be raised, so we can provide for all of their basic needs throughout 2019!

As many who have visited Korah have seen firsthand, the Elders’ Home is a true refuge and hope for those who have been ostracized and treated inhumanely because of their disease. Many who have visited the elders, say their visit was a highlight of their trip. They have much to teach us, about gratitude and joy amidst great trials.
