What an amazing night. I had the privilege of visiting Friday night at “the Stream”, a street ministry in Abbotsford, where people gather from all walks of life.
It was here that I was deeply humbled as those who struggled with their own financial burdens chose to serve those who need extra nutritional support in Korah, Ethiopia. I shared two stories: a mom wrestling with her diagnosis of HIV, and a blind, widowed father with a premature little boy. You could hear a pin drop. There was an understanding, a deep compassion for those who had suffered.
I watched in awe as people emptied their wallets, their pockets and gave whatever they had in a glass jar. I almost started crying as a young girl shared with me: “I put in two dollars”. That was what she had, and I was reminded of the widow and her two coins in Matthew 12:42.
As we enter the Christmas season, I am conscious of the heart behind living generously and with open hands. Bless you, “Streamers”, for your impact in the lives of people in Korah!
