We’re thrilled to share that this week, our Hope for Korah Basket Weavers were featured on national TV, broadcasted across Ethiopia.
The weekly program spotlighted HFK’s Economic Empowerment program emphasizing its unique and impactful model that offers holistic support and training, leading to income generation opportunities for women.
Throughout the episode, the television host interviewed several of our weavers. These courageous women shared their stories of how their journey with HFK and the training they received empowered them to transition from a life of begging or scavenging at the trash dump to becoming skilled, independent workers who provide for their families.
It's truly heartwarming to witness our women being honored in this manner and to see them confidently representing themselves, especially considering their challenging pasts and remarkable progress. Towards the end, Shemsel Ibrahim, HFK's Economic Empowerment Officer, explains that many women entering the program come from rural areas with limited skills and education, making it challenging for them to adapt to city life in Addis Ababa. She also shares, how over the course of 3 years, Hope for Korah equips these women with the mindset and skills necessary for adjustment and self-sufficiency.
This is so fun to watch - we hope you enjoy the program! (In Amharic)
