Melkam Addis Ahmet! Happy New Year to all of our dear Ethiopian families and friends!
We wish we could be there to celebrate with you and pray for God's richest blessings of peace and hope throughout all of 2015!
For our Western Friends: Did you know that Ethiopia celebrates its New Year, Addis Ahmet, on September 11th rather than January 1st? In their unique calendar, based on the ancient Coptic calendar, September is also the first month of the year! They celebrate the onset of a new year and warmer spring weather by gathering with family to share a traditional meal and give children gifts. Cultural and religious performances also typically take place!
