The baskets made by the women in our Basket Weavers’ Cooperative can now be purchased at Sabahar—a retail shop in Addis Ababa where traditionally handwoven Ethiopian textiles are sold.
The women in the cooperative recently visited the new store to see their baskets showcased alongside other beautiful handmade goods. It was a profound and exciting experience for them, seeing their hard work featured in an official shop where customers will see them regularly. It was a huge boost to their confidence and gave them a renewed sense of pride in their work.
Sabahar has such an inspiring vision for preserving and celebrating hand weaving as a traditional skill and as a sustainable livelihood. We are so excited to have this opportunity to partner with Sabahar and come alongside their passion for supporting women’s work, fair trade models, and sustainable Ethiopian development and poverty reduction.
If you’re in Addis Ababa, we would love for you to visit Sabahar and support the talented artisans behind the beautiful handwoven textiles and baskets you will find there!
