This year, we celebrated the Victory of Adwa in a unique way. Instead of taking to the streets as we usually do, we created a meaningful experience for our teens.
The Battle of Adwa is celebrated annually in Ethiopia as Adwa Victory Day, honoring the resilience and bravery of the Ethiopian people in defending the nation’s independence.
We took a group of our young people to the Ethiopian National Beherawi Theater where we enjoyed the incredible theater performance of "Shemgaye". This performance, deeply rooted in culture, highlights how Ethiopians traditionally resolve conflicts through peace-building and dialogue—a process that fosters understanding and unity.
The teens had a wonderful time, watching the play and later coming together for a shared lunch, where they exchanged thoughts and discussed the deeper values and lessons behind Adwa's victory.
Through this experience, the kids were not only exposed to their cultural heritage but also inspired to explore their talents. Some of them expressed their dreams of becoming artists, and who knows – we might see a future actor on stage!
It was a day full of reflection, learning, and inspiration. Here's to the spirit of Adwa, the resilience and independence of the Ethiopian people, and the bright future of our youth!
