Kalkidan's Education

Throughout grade school, Kalkidan was part of HFK's Child Sponsorship Program, which played a crucial role in her upbringing. Starting her mornings with the Berta Breakfast feeding program, attending after-school tutoring, and participating in various children and youth activities over the years have given her a solid foundation for success. We’ve seen Kalkidan grow into a strong leader and a great role model for her peers, regularly volunteering at Berta to give back to her community.

Kalkidan shares her motivation for pursuing higher education: "I want to serve my community and my country, and also lead my family to a better life. I live with my parents and three sisters—I don’t have any brothers. I’m the second child, and my mother supports us by selling wood." Kalkidan has a close relationship with her older sister, as well as several school-age friends, and they deeply care for one another.

We believe post-secondary education will be a transformative and positive step in Kalkidan’s life, and we are excited for this next chapter in her educational journey. Her sponsorship will cover tuition fees, school supplies, materials, and transportation costs needed to complete her program. This will empower Kalkidan to break the cycle of poverty by equipping her with the knowledge and skills for a brighter future.
