Jemela's Education

Jemela, a natural leader, excels in both Math and Amharic, often using her spare time to tutor her peers.

Her family joined HFK after her father fell ill and was unable to work, placing the financial burden on her mother. With a large family, making ends meet became increasingly challenging. Fortunately, her father has received medical treatment, and her mother is now one of HFK's basket weavers! Jemela is a responsible daughter who assists her parents in caring for her younger siblings by cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry.

As a diligent 14-year-old, she successfully passed her Grade 6 National Exams and will be attending a private school this fall. Jemela is a regular participant in HFK's after-school tutorial program and is actively involved in various other youth activities, particularly enjoying the Book Review and Girl's Team programs. Confident, friendly, and articulate, Jemela is a strong student who cherishes her time spent with her best friend, Yenenesh.

This fall, Jemela will enter Grade 7 at Mar Youth Academy, a private school that offers a higher standard of education with smaller class sizes, quality teaching, and greater support from teachers. Her Educational Sponsorship will cover tuition, uniforms, textbooks, school supplies, after-school tutoring, youth activities, and the Berta Breakfast provided each morning before school. This support will help Jemela break the cycle of poverty by empowering her mind and providing hope for a brighter future.
