Geremew's Education

With a positive mindset and a strong sense of purpose, Geremew is determined to become a social worker.

Growing up in Korah, Geremew has firsthand experience of the struggles of living in poverty. His family joined HFK in 2011 when his mother was forced to beg on the streets to survive and provide for her children. Today, she is one of HFK’s experienced basket weavers, and Geremew has worked hard to graduate high school. He describes his passion for social work this way: “I want to serve my community. I want to help build a strong community, free from addiction, and I want to train the youth to become hard workers.”

Geremew is an active participant in several HFK youth programs, including After-School Tutoring, Soccer Club, Book Review, and Bright Youth. He also gives back to his community by regularly volunteering with the Berta Breakfast feeding program. At home, he helps with chores such as fetching water, sweeping, and doing laundry. In his spare time, Geremew enjoys listening to music and watching movies.

We believe that post-secondary education will be a transformative and positive step in Geremew’s life, and we are excited to support him as he embarks on this next chapter of his educational journey. This sponsorship will cover tuition fees, school supplies, materials, and transportation costs necessary for him to complete his program. In turn, this support will help Geremew break the cycle of poverty, empowering him to create a brighter future for himself and his community.
